Dr. Simmons is a Family Physician with Atrium Health in the Department of Family Medicine. He is an Associate Professor and currently serves as Faculty for the Residency Program at Union Family Practice in Monroe, NC. Besides caring for patients at Atrium Union Hospital, Dr. Simmons practices full-scope Family Medicine, providing care from newborns to geriatrics. He graduated from Longwood University, Farmville, Virginia, with Bachelor of Science degrees in biology and chemistry in 2003. He earned his medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, DC, in 2008, and completed his residency at Carolinas Medical Center Elizabeth Family Medicine in 2012. He achieved a master's in health administration at Queens University, Charlotte, in 2025. Dr. Simmons is passionate about serving the community beyond the office and hospital walls. He has served on community boards such as the Regional AIDS Interfaith Network (RAIN) and PFLAG Charlotte. Additionally, he has served on the Board of Directors as the New Physician member for the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the National Conference of Constituency Leaders (NCCL) Delegate to the AAFP Congress of Delegates. He believes that the best health outcomes are achieved when physicians meet patients where they are and provide services that meet their needs, such as affordable medications, healthy food, reliable transportation, and stable housing. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and painting.
