CDC Issues Interim Guidance on Vaping Illness

Thirty-eight states and one U.S. territory have reported more than 500 cases of severe lung illnesses potentially associated with e-cigarette products. Seven related deaths have been confirmed in six states. All reported cases have a history of e-cigarette product use or vaping, with most patients reporting a history of using e-cigarette products containing THC. The CDC does not yet know the specific cause of these illnesses and the investigation has not yet identified any specific e-cigarette product (devices, liquids, refill pods, and/or cartridges) or substance linked to all cases. A copy of CDC’s interim guidance can be downloaded here. The AAFP has also published additional coverage online.
