Three Cases of Severe Acute Pulmonary Illness Reported Across NC by People Vaping

The NC Division of Public Health alerted clinicians last week about recent reports of severe pulmonary illness following vaping. Three cases have been identified in North Carolina that are similar to those reported in Wisconsin, Illinois, California, and Minnesota. Patients have presented with respiratory symptoms including cough and shortness of breath that worsen over a period of days or weeks before eventual admission to the hospital. While no specific product has been identified in all cases or conclusively linked to the illness, the three NC cases reported using vape pens containing THC.
