Residency Program Director & Professor of Family Medicine
Sara Neal, MD, MA, ABFM, CAQ graduated from Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in 1994. After finishing residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, she joined the Family Medicine faculty at Wake Forest School of Medicine. She completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Moses Cone Hospital in 2006 and joined the Cone Health Family Medicine and Sports Medicine faculty in 2009. She became Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program in 2019.
Dr. Neal describes herself as a true “generalist,” as she enjoys both inpatient and outpatient family medicine as well as sports medicine. She is passionate about procedural training including exercise treadmill testing, colposcopy, endometrial biopsy, musculoskeletal ultrasound and minor skin surgery. Areas of interest include exercise and wellness, women’s health, LGBT health and learning disabilities. Dr. Neal enjoys running, hiking, kayaking and most sports, although she is the master of none! She is married, and is owned by two cats and two dogs.
