On Tuesday, Exec. VP and CEO Greg Griggs, NCAFP President Benjamin “Frankie” Simmons, Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) President Dr. Tom Wroth, past NCAFP president (and NC Medical Society President-Elect) Dr. Karen Smith, and other members attended the Roundtable on Strengthening Primary Care in North Carolina in Durham. The event gathered policymakers with leading advocates for primary care in North Carolina, where they discussed how to best serve North Carolinian patients by strengthening primary care. The roundtable event was developed by the Primary Care Collective and co-sponsored by CCNC and the NC Area Health Education Centers.
Griggs welcomed attendees to the roundtable with brief opening remarks and a call for greater investment in primary care. “With a tremendous amount of attention on health care affordability in North Carolina, we have a unique opportunity right now,” Griggs stated in his opening remarks. “I hope today serves as a catalyst for ongoing work. It’s past time to address the affordability crisis in health care, and enhanced primary care investment is one key way of addressing that problem.”
The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, Inc. (NCAFP) is a nonprofit professional association headquartered in Raleigh which represents over 4,300 family physicians, family medicine residents, and medical students across the state. It is the largest medical specialty association in North Carolina and is a constituent chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, based in Leadwood, KS.
