On Aug. 13, the NCAFP welcomed members and other family physicians to the Wilmington Area Family Physicians Social! Around 40 NCAFP members met together at Mad Mole Brewing in Wilmington to connect, share refreshments, and win free prizes from the Academy. Six attendees received door prizes – including one family physician who received free registration to attend the NCAFP’s 2026 Winter Family Physicians Weekend. The event even reconnected former colleagues and mentors who practice in the area but had not seen each other recently.
The connections continued the next day, when NCAFP staff visited Promina Health Direct Primary Care in Wilmington and met with NCAFP members Dr. Brian Lanier and Dr. Kathryn Newell. There, the two physicians walked them through their regular workday and clinical concerns.
That afternoon, NCAFP staff met even more members while presenting to Family Medicine residents during a didactic at the Novant Health Wilmington Family Medicine Residency Program. Staff presented in-depth overviews of both Family Medicine advocacy and available practice models in primary care and were well received, according to attendees.
“It’s great to get out and meet our members where they live and work,” says NCAFP Exec. VP and CEO Greg Griggs. “It provides greater insight to help us serve them better.”
