On May 7, NCAFP leaders attended the Jim Jones Lecture at the East Carolina University (ECU) Brody School of Medicine! Past NCAFP president and AAFP Board Member Dr. Shannon Dowler presented the Grand Rounds lecture, and NCAFP Exec. VP and CEO Greg Griggs attended as a special invitee, along with past NCAFP presidents Dr. Michelle Jones, Dr. Jessica Triche, Dr. Mott Blair, and Dr. Tamieka Howell, and with NCAFP members Dr. Jonathon Firnhaber and Dr. Justin Edwards.
“What an honor to be invited to the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University ECU to give the Jim Jones Memorial Grand Rounds today,” Dr. Dowler said in a statement. “I got to speak about my very favorite topic with these young doctors — sexual health!!! Grateful to North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians for always being there for family medicine and family doctors!”
The Jim Jones Professorship honors past NCAFP president Dr. James “Jim” Jones, who was named the founding chair of the Dept. of Family Medicine at Brody Medical School in 1976 and served as chair for 18 years. ECU created the professorship in 2023, and Dr. Justin Edwards became its inaugural professor last year.
