Two NCAFP Members Receive Scholarship for the 2026 AAFP Advocacy Summit!

NCAFP members Dr. Atif Mahmood and Collette Cambey (both pictured) have received scholarships to attend the 2026 AAFP Family Medicine Advocacy Summit in June! “It was an extremely competitive application process, but we were impressed with your advocacy efforts,” the AAFP told both recipients.

Dr. Mahmood is currently a resident at Cone Health in Greensboro, and Ms. Cambey is currently a rising fourth-year medical student at the Univ. of North Carolina School of Medicine (who is also pursuing a master’s in public health simultaneously). Both members have demonstrated skill in policy advocacy through past NCAFP White Coat Wednesday events, and so we’re thrilled they will attend the Advocacy Summit. During the 2025 White Coat Wednesday event, Cambey enjoyed meeting with both her senator and her representative in the state legislature. “They were very receptive,” Cambey said. “We talked in great detail about the medical student loan programs and even went over the scheduled time limit. I lucked out by having a nice day full of amenable people to talk to.”

The AAFP Advocacy Summit will teach them dynamic advocacy for the federal level, policy insights, and other key skills. Congratulations to Dr. Mahmood and Ms. Cambey!
