NCAFP Data and Sources Appear in NC Newsline Article About Medicaid Cuts

By Kevin LaTorre

Last week, NC Newsline published a deep investigation of the consequences of the recent Medicaid cuts: “North Carolina’s dreaded Medicaid cuts are here.

“Cuts to provider payments could make it harder for people to find medical and dental care, and contribute to worker shortages,” reporter Lynn Bonner writes. To explore those impacts, Bonner quotes both NCAFP President Dr. Mark McNeill and the recent survey we conducted about the cuts together with the NC Pediatric Society. Dr. McNeill told Bonner that “44% of survey respondents indicated they would have to limit the number of Medicaid patients they see in their practice, and nearly 10% said they would have to stop seeing all Medicaid patients.” Bonner quotes more findings from the survey: “More than a quarter said they would have to lay off administrative staff, and just over 20% said they would have to lay off medical staff. Nearly 23% said the cuts might result in one or more physicians in their practices retiring early.”

These impacts are why the NCAFP continues to advocate for a solution that would rescind these cuts to Medicaid rates. Read the full NC Newsline article to learn more.
