On Nov. 6, NCAFP President Dr. Mark McNeill and four other Medicaid providers met with NC Governor Josh Stein during a small meeting in Raleigh. Gov. Stein met with the group to discuss the impact of Medicaid rate cuts. Dr. McNeill stressed the chronic underfunding of primary care while also noting that adults with a primary care physician have 33% lower health care costs but better health outcomes. He also discussed the devastating impact the 8% cuts to primary care are already having on primary care practices across the state.
Others in the meeting included representatives of Home Health and Hospice, speech pathologists, behavioral health providers, and autism service providers. NCAFP was the only physician organization represented at the meeting.
Earlier in the afternoon, Gov. Stein held a press conference to call the legislature back to Raleigh to address the Medicaid funding shortfall. You can read the Governor’s proclamation calling an extra session of the General Assembly here.
Dr. McNeill’s participation in the meeting with Gov. Stein yesterday afternoon is only the latest effort of the NCAFP leadership to advocate against the recent Medicaid cuts, which took effect Oct. 1.
