Hannah C. Smith

Ms. Smith is in the Class of 2021 at Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.   Ms. Smith is a third-year medical student at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. In addition to her MD, she is working on a Certificate in Public Health, with an emphasis on Ethnic and Rural Health Disparities. Ms. Smith is a Schweitzer Fellow and was selected as a Brody Service-Learning Distinction Track Scholar. She is a native North Carolinian, having grown up on a farm in rural, Mount Pleasant, NC. Ms. Smith then moved to Boone to complete her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology with minors in Spanish and Chemistry at Appalachian State University. Her childhood experiences led to her interest in becoming involved in as many opportunities in family medicine as possible. Among others, Ms. Smith served as a FMIG leader at Brody, participated in the NCAFP Western Rural Health Immersion Program in Hendersonville and has attended the annual WFPW and Family Medicine Day multiple times. She currently serves as a Student Trustee on the NCAFP Foundation Board of Trustees. Hannah states “The NCAFP has invested time and interest in me and my classmates over the last two years, allowing me to explore and nurture my love of Family Medicine.  I look forward to helping others be their best selves throughout their journey to Family Medicine, showing them the endless possibilities in this field of medicine and sharing love of rural healthcare, service to our community, and dedication to impacting the health of every age group.”
