On March 9th, 2019 the NC Academy of Family Physicians held Family Medicine Day. Medical students were given hands-on training on many aspects of family medicine. One portion included mock circumcisions with students using instruments to perform the procedure. We understand there is strong debate in the United States about performing circumcisions on males, with scientific research showing both support and opposition to the procedure. Policies developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists were discussed in this workshop. As we train the next generation of medical students, it’s important for them to understand all options that may be presented in their future practice.
