Resources Abound for Co-Managing Patients with Sickle Cell Disease

There’s a new mobile app and other resources available to support the co-management of patients with sickle cell disease between family physicians and sickle cell experts. Known as the Sickle Cell Disease Toolbox, the resource is a mobile app that contains both health maintenance guidance for adults and children with sickle cell disease, as well as algorithms to guide the treatment of individuals as they present for outpatient care with an acute problem.

The guidance is based on the evidence-based recommendations for the management of sickle cell disease published in 2014 by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and are supported by Dr. Betsey Tilson, the State Health Director and the Chief Medical Officer for the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (link to letter (to upload to NCAFP.com)).
