Dr. Ophelia Garmon-Brown, the 2012 NC Family Physician of the Year and Novant Health’s Chief Community Wellness and Health Equity Executive, has been awarded the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award, the highest honor the state of North Carolina can give a civilian. Created in the 1960s, the Order of the Long Leaf Pine is unique to North Carolina, and its recipients are chosen based on their contributions to their communities, extraordinary careers and many years of service. Garmon-Brown’s certificate was presented in a surprise ceremony Monday, July 16, in the presence of colleagues, friends and family.
“Ophelia is a remarkable woman with extraordinary gifts and talents,” said Carl Armato, President and CEO of Novant Health. “As a physician, minister, volunteer, advocate, community leader — she embodies the spirit of giving and caring for others.” Congratulations!
