AAFP Supports Recent Congressional Action on Reducing Health Care Costs

Last week, the AAFP affirmed its support of Congress’s recent focus on combating the rising costs of health care. AAFP President Dr. Michael Munger issued a statement backing two key provisions of the Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018: 1) allowing direct primary care membership fees as allowable medical expenses; and 2) the removal of restrictions on over-the-counter medicines for flexible spending accounts. The House successfully passed the proposal (HR 6199) which also contains several key changes to health savings accounts. The legislation now goes to the Senate.
