NC DHHS Releases Draft Program Design for Medicaid Managed-Care

The NC Department of Health and Human Services released more details this week on their proposed program design for Medicaid Managed care. According to the draft document, DHHS’s approach is based on best practices in other states and seeks to build on the existing resources and infrastructure of North Carolina’s current health care system and Medicaid program. The main tenets of the draft include full integration of behavioral and physical health, enhanced supports for providers and beneficiaries during the upcoming transition, the strengthening of overall access-to-care, a shift to a value-based payment strategy, and goals to build relationships for success with prepaid health plans (PHPs), providers, and others, including pharmacy.
A copy of the draft design as well as answers to common physician questions can be located on the DHHS website.
