NCDHHS announced more budget-driven changes to its immunization program last week in a memo to providers. Major changes to the NC Immunization Program include: 1) only providing seasonal influenza vaccine to children eligible for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program; 2) Pediatric Tdap vaccine will be available universally (ages 10-18); Varicella vaccine will be available universally (ages 12 months -18 years); Adult Tdap vaccine will be available for all persons entering an NC college or university for the first time or to post partum women seen at local health departments only. Coverages for all other vaccines remain unchanged from the department's Oct. 30, 2009 memo.
The Immunization Branch has posted a 'Frequently Asked Questions' on their website that can answer many common inquiries. Find it at http://www.immunizenc.com/programchanges.htm. A copy of the memo can be downloaded above.
