New family physicians who need help in getting their educational loans paid back are being encouraged to consider the range of opportunities available through the National Health Service Corps (NHSC). NHSC's Loan Repayment Fund was replenished this summer with some $200M as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Physicians can apply for NHSC Loan Repayment Funds immediately. The program requires participating physicians to serve in a federally-designated health professional shortage area for at least two years.
