We need your help! We need every NCAFP member to write their local legislative delegation urging support for funding of a new Family Medicine Center at the Brody School of Medicine at ECU. For several years, your Academy leadership has worked to obtain funding for this important project. And now, $36.5 million for the Center is included in the 2008-09 UNC System Capital Budget request to the General Assembly. While representatives of ECU are working hard to provide first-hand tours to as many legislators as possible, we need your help to make sure every member of the General Assembly understands the need. Please write your state Senator and Representative to urge them to support this appropriation. To find your elected officials' names and addresses, you can visit the General Assembly website at www.ncleg.net. If you are unsure who represents you, you can enter your zip plus four and find the names and addresses of both your state Senator and state Representative. Once you have identified your elected officials, please write a personal note to them supporting this funding.
As a second step, we also hope you will join us for a family medicine blitz at the General Assembly on Wednesday, June 4th. Our goal is 100 family physicians, residents and medical students all in Raleigh supporting this funding effort, plus other top Academy priorities. Some of these other priorities include maintaining and enhancing the Medicaid payment rate, and highlighting the need for primary care physicians as part of the Medical School Expansion effort. If you can come to Raleigh on June 4th, please contact NCAFP Executive Vice President Greg Griggs at ggriggs@ncafp.com. Look for additional details about this legislative day in upcoming editions of Notes, but block your schedule now and let us know that you can attend. We'll send each participant full details and background information closer to the date.
Remember, act now and help us by writing your legislative delegation and blitzing the General Assembly on June 4th!
