Families Eating Smart Moving More is well into its third year in Cabarrus County. Pam Outen, the local Families and Consumer Science agent, started presenting the curriculum in 2005 at Cabarrus Family Medicine. The classes are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month, with the exception of June, July, December and January.
At each session, Pam focuses on one of the four modules of Families Eating Smart Moving More. The four modules include Eating Smart at Home, Moving More, Everyday Everywhere, Eating Smart on the Run and Moving More, Watching Less. If a participant attends all four sessions, they receive a certification of completion and a special gift. She has had an average 35 participants at one session.
The collaboration with Pam Outen and Cabarrus Family Medicine was initiated in 2004 with the Academy’s Adolescent Obesity Initiative. The partnership was formed with Pam and Dr. Christopher Snyder originally and even though he has recently relocated Pam’s partnership with the practice remains strong.
