The NC ICARE Project is presenting a web conference about recognizing the various impact of alcohol and substance abuse related risks.
The program is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners in primary care settings,
psychiatrists, and other interested health care
professionals.
The Objectives of the program are:
- Recognize the impact of alcohol related risk;
- Define the continuum model of alcohol use and
abuse;
- Demonstrate an effective style of questioning about
alcohol use, including the use of screening instruments;
- Define appropriate interventions across the alcohol
use continuum;
- Outline the elements of effective brief interventions,
including the use of motivation approaches to intervention;
- Provide an overview of pharmacologic adjuncts
currently available for alcohol abuse and dependence;
- Describe the role of the clinician in supportive
follow-up.
