- An organizational meeting was held February 22, 1948 in Greensboro, NC. With 42 members present, a resolution was passed approving formation of a state chapter of the American Academy of General Practice.
- Dr. John Bender was elected President, Dr. W.A.Sams, Vice President and Dr. Roscoe McMilan, Secretary/Treasurer.
- Board of Directors: Dr. John Payne of Sunbury; Dr. Grady Dixon of Ayden; Dr. Amos Johnson of Garland; Dr. Henderson Irwin of Eureka; Dr. L. R. Doffermyre of Dunn; Dr. C.A. Bland of Louisburg; Dr. W.E. Selby of Charlotte; Dr. A.O. Owenby of Greensboro; Dr. I.E. Shaffer of Salisbury; Dr. C.H.Duckett of Canton
- In compliance with the Charter of Incorporation of the American Academy of General Practice (AAGP), a letter of request that the North Carolina Chapter be chartered was sent to the AAGP President.
- A charter was granted to the North Carolina chapter on April 25, 1948 and is Charter number 21.
- At the May business meeting in Pinehurst, the constitution and bylaws were ratified and committees appointed. There were 62 charter members at that time.
