The following physicians currently serve as directors on the NCAFP Board of Directors.
Dr. Talton graduated from the East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, NC in 1997. He completed his residency in a joint program involving Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC and Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton, NC. Dr. Talton is currently the medical director of Mount Olive Family Medicine Center, Inc. in Mount Olive, NC.
Dr. Kaprielian graduated from the UCLA School of Medicine in 1985 and completed her residency at the Duke-Watts Family Medicine Residency Program in Durham, NC. She is a Clinical Professor at Duke University Medical Center, where she served as Director of Predoctoral Education in the Dept. of Community and Family Medicine for 10 years. She has taught in the Duke Family Medicine Residency Program since 1991, where she led Faculty Development programs in various capacities. Dr. Kaprielian currently serves as Director of Quality Improvement and CME for the Department of Community & Family Medicine, and also as Director of a new Intersessions Program for the medical school. In addition, she has designed and implemented an interdisciplinary chronic disease education program for PA, NP, and PharmD students, as well as Family Medicine and Pediatrics residents, and does program design for the Physician Assistant program. Dr. Kaprielian has served two terms on the NCAFP Women Physicians Constituency, currently sits on the Health Promotion & Disease Council and the Health Disparities Council, and is a Fellow in the AAFP. Dr. Kaprielian is also a member of the newly-formed Fit Together Adolescent & Obesity & Inactivity Advisory Committee.
Dr. McGrath completed his BA in Biology at Drew University in Madison, NJ in 1993, attended the Medical College of Georgia from 1996-2000 and completed his residency at UNC Chapel Hill from 2000-2003 where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. McGrath obtained his MGA from Kenan Flagler School of Business, UNC Chapel Hill in 2006 and is currently working at Kernodle Clinic, Inc., where he serves on the Board of Directors. Dr. McGrath lives in Mebane with his wife and son. His medical interests include prevention and medical economics. Personal interests include backpacking, triathlons, gardening and cooking.
Dr. Beyer attended the University of North Carolina Medical School in Chapel Hill, where she graduated in 1995, and completed her residency at Duke University in Durham in 1999. Dr. Beyer is currently in practice at Steele Creek Family Practice in Charlotte, NC.
Dr. White received his undergraduate degree and MD from Duke University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with election to Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed a family practice residency at Charlotte, NC and after serving on the teaching faculty and practicing in Charlotte, he has practiced in his hometown of Cherryville, NC for 20 years. He is board certified in family practice and clinical lipidology. His other interests include running, with 30 marathons and 5 Boston marathons completed, and nutrition.
Dr. Forrest graduated in 1998 from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He was an active member of his school’s Family Medicine Interest Group, and during his years in medical school he received numerous awards, including the AAFP 1996 FMIG Leadership Award. Dr. Forrest went on to complete his residency in 2001 at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. During his residency, he served on the AAFP’s Committee on Scientific Program for 1998. Dr. Forrest is currently Chair of the NCAFP’s Professional Services Council, a position he has held for the past two years, and he is also a member of the Governmental Affairs Advisory Council.
Dr. Dennis graduated from medical school at East Carolina University in 1999 and completed his residency in 2002 at Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson, SC. Prior to his medical career, he graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Journalism, and spent 20 years as an editor, reporter, and columnist at the Henderson Daily Dispatch newspaper in Henderson, NC. During medical school, Dr. Dennis was a 1996 Rural Health Scholar, received the Merck Award for Academic Excellence in 1998, and was awarded the American Society of Clinical Pathologists’ Award for Academic Excellence and Achievement in 1999. Dr. Dennis currently practices family medicine at Henderson Family Medicine, a Duke-owned practice.
Dr. Torres is a graduate of the Javeriana University School of Medicine in Bogota, Columbia. After completing his residency in Brooklyn, NY, he began practicing at the Tri-County Community Health Center in Dunn, NC. Dr. Torres is now in private practice in Raleigh and is an HIV specialist for the Wilson and Lumberton community health centers.
Dr. Watts is a graduate of the East Carolina University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the Mountain Area Health Education Center Residency Program in Asheville, NC, then completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at MAHEC. Dr. Watts currently practices at Mission Sports Medicine in Asheville, NC. She has served as both a student and resident member of the NCAFP Foundation Board.
