Leadership Retreat will Provide Media Training to Family Physicians

Family physicians are on the front lines of healthcare and can provide excellent insight into the latest health issues. The news media will often seek out perspectives of practicing family physicians to gain local insight into what patients and families are requesting. The Academy wants to sharpen everyone's skills in this area. We are inviting all members to attend this year's NCAFP Leadership Retreat in Raleigh, NC, on Saturday, July 25th, 2009 at the Sheraton Raleigh Hotel. Public relations expert Roger Friedensen, Vice President of Catevo Group, will present "Making the Most of Each Interview Opportunity through Print, Broadcast & Digital Media." Each attendee will gain insightful knowledge on this important topic. Representatives of the local media will also take part in a panel discussion. BCBSNC Begins to Cover Electronic Patient Visits (e-Visits)

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina has begun reimbursing health care providers for electronic visits with patients. According to Blue Cross, 'Electronic visits, or "E-visits," are online medical evaluations through a secured electronic channel similar to e-mail. It allows patients to submit information to providers at their convenience and providers to respond, usually within one to two business days.' BCBSNC has developed medical policy outlining the terms for payment for e-visits.
