Sampson Regional's 'Vitality' Magazine Highlights Clinton Medical Clinic

The health and lifestyle magazine of Sampson Regional Medical Center - Vitality - recently highlighted Clinton Medical Clinic (CMC) and its unique standing within North Carolina's family medicine specialty. CMC has produced four (4) NC family physicians of the year, more than any other state practice. The article highlighted the work of Drs. John Nance (FPOY 1980), Frank Leak (FPOY 1986), John Smith (FPOY 2000) and J.Thomas Newton (FPOY 2007). The author even caught up with former NCAFP EVP Sue Makey and Sampson County resident for her perspectives.

Wake Forest FMIG Lauded for Increasing AAFP Student Membership

The Wake Forest University Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) was recently awarded $100.00 by the AAFP for increasing its student membership by 26% this academic school year. Wake Forest was an active participant in AAFP's student membership recruitment initiative that was launched last year. Each school utilized AAFP-supplied recruitment materials and named a student membership coordinator to help raise awareness of the benefits of membership and the breadth of family medicine. Congratulations!

NCAFP Planning Major Advocacy Push at NC General Assembly

The Academy will be conducting a major advocacy push at the NC General Assembly on June 4, 2008. The chapter's goal is to gather 100 physicians, residents, and medical students in Raleigh to lobby for support of a new family medicine center at East Carolina University and other issues important to family physicians.
