About Family Medicine Family Physicians are specialists. Unlike other medical specialties, family physicians are specialists because of what their training and practices include, rather that what they exclude..they are 'specialists in breadth'.

Their training in family medicine includes six basic areas of medicine: pediatrics, internal medicine, psychiatry, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and community medicine. Overall, family medicine integrates the biological, clinical and behavioral sciences and encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system and every disease entity.
